What’s new in Aviary
Every release of the Aviary web app, newest first. Want something built? Post it on the feedback board.
A blog, screenshots on bug reports and new money tools
- Attach a private screenshot when you report a bug.
- Read the new Aviary blog, with fresh posts on budgeting in India.
- New tools: salary budgets for ₹30k, ₹50k and ₹80k, and a sinking fund calculator.
Bug reports can carry a screenshot now. It stays private and is deleted with your account. The Aviary blog is live, with posts on budgeting in India and an RSS feed. Compare, tools and feature pages read like articles too. New free tools: salary budgets for ₹30k, ₹50k and ₹80k a month, a sinking fund calculator, and how Aviary compares to a budget spreadsheet. Also: Aviary costs $4.99 outside India, Insights colours match each category's tile, and the landing page demo matches the app's new look.
A fresh look, an ideas board and a 30-day trial
- Geist type across the app, a Categories icon in the nav and a smoother sidebar.
- Pitch ideas, vote on others and see what we're building on the new ideas board.
- Every new account gets a 30-day free trial.
Aviary has a calmer look, with Geist type everywhere and a sidebar that collapses smoothly from its edge. The ideas board is new. Pitch an idea, vote on the ones you want and filter by status. Bug reports and feedback open in tidy dialogs too. Pages load as skeletons shaped like the real thing, category icons draw faster, and subscription suggestions match the services popular where you live. Also: Ask Aviary retries on a backup model when the first is busy, Google sign-in says Just a moment while it loads, and a handful of smaller fixes.
Pick your extras, moments that land and come-back nudges
- Choose which extras you see, at the end of setup or on the new Features page in More.
- Ready to Assign hitting zero gets a little celebration, and leftover money reads as savings.
- Away for a few days? You'll get a friendly nudge instead of the evening check.
New accounts start lean: Insights, Ask Aviary, Scan a bill, Subscriptions, Investments and Wrapped stay off until you want them, and whatever's off leaves the sidebar, tabs and Home. Existing accounts keep everything on. Home is simpler, with a white page, tinted pills for what's left and red only when you're overspent. Overspend on an expense and you'll see how much, with a link to cover it. Wrapped ends with Plan this month. Also: new empty states, a shared form sheet for Move money and Assign, and fixes for features flashing in while a page loads.
Income, Accounts and PayPal
- New Income page: schedule a salary, gig or bonus with its payday, and record one-offs.
- New Accounts page: tag what you paid from, with an emoji each, and filter Activity by account.
- Attach a photo to any expense, and pay with PayPal outside India.
Income has its own page. Set up a salary, a weekly gig or a yearly bonus with its payday. Monthly income counts from the 1st, other schedules on payday. Record one-off income and edit or delete anything you've recorded. Accounts has its own page too. Add, rename, archive and restore accounts, and start a name with an emoji to give it one. Log expense lets you pick what you paid from, and Activity shows income by date and filters by account. Attach a receipt to any expense. Outside India you can pay with PayPal, and your account page shows when you're on Aviary Pro. Onboarding picks your currency from your location. Also: category suggestions learn from your fixes, and the error pages got friendlier.
Type to log, and your first-week recap
- Log several spends at once by typing them into Ask Aviary.
- See your first week in a recap, with the Aviary bird along for the ride.
- Drag to reorder envelopes, and select many rows to delete or restore.
Type something like "chai 40, auto 120, lunch 250" into Ask Aviary and it sorts each spend into the right envelope. You get a quick reply, a card to review the rows, and answers come back faster than before. After your first week, a short recap shows where your money went, when you logged and your top categories. It shows once, on whichever device you open first. Drag groups and categories to reorder them on Envelopes. Deleting a group now takes its categories with it, straight to Archive. On Activity and Archive you can select several rows to delete or restore in one go. If nothing's logged by evening, we'll send a gentle nudge. We've also quietened receipts for unfunded and repeat expenses, and made sure push notifications follow whoever's signed in on a device.
